Behind The Curtain of a SEO Campaign - What You Are Really Paying For

Search engine optimization or "SEO" as it is commonly referred to, is the practice of placing your website higher within the  search engine rankings for a select set of keywords.

SEO requires strategy having a balance of quality content with just the right about amount of keyword relevance.  Excessive use of keywords in your site content (keyword stuffing) is going do nothing more or you other than cause search engine to actually lower the value for that keyword within your page.

When hiring a firm or an individual to manage your SEO campaign, you want to make sure that they avoid doing such things as keyword stuff. Be sure to ask the firm or individual what their strategy will be, and if they won't explain or act as if it's tool complicated for you to understand stay away from them. I believe that an SEO campaign should be transparent, and chances are if they plan on doing something that will not be in your best interest for long term results then they will not believe in this same code of ethics.

Search Engine Optimization and how you can Do It Yourself

High Search Engine Rankings in Google’s can have a great impact on the success of your website.

Step 1: Be Sure to Research your Keywords

Don't go in blind with out a plan when it comes to SEO for your website. Research the keywords you think your customers would used when trying to find your offered services or products. Keywords can be either one word, but it's best to use multiple words or a phrase so you are more likely to be what the customers are looking for.

  • Come up with a full list, if need be ask others as well what keywords they think would use to search for you.
  • Keep in mind their are always alternatives for your words and not everyone uses the same vocabulary when using a search engine.
  • If your business services a geographical area be sure to sure to use such locates as part of your keyword phrase (e.g. “Website Design Ann Arbor ”).
  • Check out your competitors websites and see what words they are targeting, this will help give you ideas as well as give you a good idea what to expect.
  • One free tool you can use is the Google Adwords keyword research tool, you don't actually have to purchase ads to use the tool.

After you have come up with a list of keywords pick a few phrases you think would be search the most, once again you can use a keyword research tool to help you with this information. Whatever you do be sure to remember that the higher the competition for the keyword is, the harder it will be to get a top ranking. It is suggested to hire a SEO company to manage higher competitive keywords. If you don't have a budget to hire a SEO company, then do your best to find a happy median between the low and high-end of the competitive scale.
